POLICY ON THE RIGHTS OF SERVICE USERS THEBA YOUNG WOMEN’S SERVICE
Any woman using the services of this service has the right to:
• quality and respectful care which includes being treated with consideration,
compassion and dignity, regardless of age, culture, sexual preference, religion
or disability
• privacy and confidentiality within the service
• make decisions about her own life choices
• where appropriate gain assistance in finding alternative services
if the service cannot meet her needs
• state her own preference when being referred
• read her own file
• seek assistance from a trained interpreter if required
• refuse to take part in any research or studies
• refuse services from students on work placement
• make a complaint about any aspect of the service or staff and have
it dealt with quickly and fairly
• have access to the service's written policies and procedures upon
request
• make suggestions for improvement of services
• a safe and supportive environment.
All workers are required to encourage and assist young Women using services to make their own decisions and to support them as they follow these through.
The role of staff is to assist not to impose their views or solutions onto clients.
Young Women who make complaints shall not be penalised in any way in their use of services either at the time of making the complaint or at any future time.
YOUR RIGHTS
As a woman using the services of this service you have the right to:

• Give consent first to any suggested service provision such as counseling or referrals to health care practitioners
• State your own preference when being referred
• Receive assistance in finding alternative services if the service cannot meet your needs
• Read your file
• Refuse to take part in any research or studies
• Refuse services from students on work placement
• Make a complaint about any aspect of the service or staff and have it dealt with quickly and fairly
• Access to the service's written policies and procedures upon request
• Make suggestions for improvement of services
• A safe and supportive environment.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
As a woman using the services of this service you have a responsibility to:
• Be on time for appointments and contact the service if unable to keep your appointment
• Take steps (such as asking questions) to become informed about the options to reach self identified goal and individual support plan
• Partake in the process of growth, and self care by actively participating in case management and speaking honestly with staff about any problems that may be affecting your well being
• Actively participate in exploring healthy and appropriate alternatives, tools and skills to enhance your well being
• Inform staff if you are seeing someone else for the same problems
• Accept your own informed decisions
• Respect the rights of other Women using the service, including their right to privacy and confidentiality
• Treat the staff of the service with respect
• Assist in seeking a fair resolution to any complaint you make of the service
• Help make this service a safe place for all young Women
